Becoming a More Effective Elementary Teacher

Welcome to your first year of teaching! Your journey into the classroom has begun and can be more successful. These sessions will provide teachers with ideas and strategies for developing their teaching practices to become more effective classroom instructors. The research-based strategies are aimed at enhancing student achievement for all students at all grade levels. Studies show that teachers have a powerful effect on student achievement. Identifying what highly effective teachers do and using research-based instructional strategies, teachers can maximize student learning and achievement.
Day 1: Participants will learn strategies to create a positive learning environment for all students and tools you need to possess to be a manager rather than a disciplinarian. Participants will also address planning strategies for using standards, units, and lessons. A portion of this session will be used to answer questions participants have about instruction and management.
Day 2: Introduce formative assessments as a method of improving student achievement. Discussion of strategies participants implemented between the two sessions. Discussion of additional ideas for becoming a more effective teacher.
Presenter: GENE STUKEL has been an instructor for St. Mary’s University graduate program (Master’s of Education) and taught courses for Hamline University. Formerly he taught 33 years in Granite Falls in secondary social studies.
Fee: $75/NCEC members; $100/non-NCEC members
