School Nutrition Consultant Program offers the following services. A mutual agreement determines which services a school uses.
- Review of food services operations
- Menu planning & review to ensure regulation adequacy
- Nutritional analysis, guidance on nutritional label reading
- Managing USDA Meal programs
- Budgeting and purchasing training
- Preparation for Food & nutrition Department MDE review
- Evaluation of service line & recommendations for improved flow & regulatory compliance
- Grant writing, in particular the USDA equipment grant
- Staff evaluation of appropriate levels & other staff training
- Cooking Matters classes
- Assistance with moving from pan and bake menu to more scratch foods menu
- Standardized recipe development
- Commodity program assistance
- Increasing student participation during meals by improving/increasing student services/quality of meals
- HACCP-Food Safety Program evaluation and assistance
- Procurement compliance and assistance with RFP process
- Assistance in application for school food service awards such as Alliance for Healthier Schools
- Help with obtaining required documentation for grains, meats, and combination foods
- Assistance with creating greater overall department efficiency and improved quality of meals
