Math Cohort from MCTM and NWSC 2018-19
Imagine a classroom of students who want to share their thoughts about the problem you have presented, discuss their different ideas, discover concepts and explore mathematics. This is how we are told we should be teaching math. But how do you establish a classroom that gets students engaged in mathematics?
This cohort is a three-day workshop, spread throughout the year, that explores the different teaching strategies and tools that help create this type of classroom. Members will be looking at Desmos, Notice/Wonder, Stand and Talks, Increasing Depth of Knowledge, Number Talks, VPNS, and more. In addition to the three workshops, we will incorporate chats and collaboration amongst the members, with the intent to build a network of teachers in northwest Minnesota that continue to collaborate beyond the cohort. The amount of time outside the three workshop days will not exceed an hour a month, unless the member decides to participate further.
