2018-19 Creativity Festival
The first event for Student Programs this year came with a bang! Our 2018-2019 Creativity Festival was held at Bemidji State University on November 21, 2018. This year we decided to change the date to the beginning of the winter instead of the middle of winter to get away from the freezing cold and more possibilities of snow storms!
Although the day was still cold, we had 508 students registered for this fun filled day. With having to turn down almost 150 students this year, it looks like changing the date was a good decision!
The day started off with Jamie Lee’s presentation on “Your Big Bad Beautiful Brain”. Learning how to run your own brain is like learning to drive a bus—you want to have a good, strong hold of the steering wheel. Jamie explained some keen strategies for overcoming bad feelings about oneself and creating the life that you want to live.
Once done with the keynote, students broke out into different sessions. They were able to participate in 3 sessions throughout the day. With a total of 17 different sessions, students had many options to choose from to peak their interests. From drawing and crafting, to learning about science projects and animals, to performing improvisation and theater along with learning moves to hip hop dancing. The students seemed to enjoy their day!
