Restorative Practices – Foundations: This session will provide an overview of restorative justice principles and theory, restorative practices in schools, implementation guidance and a review of resources. Restorative practices is an evidenced based strategy to improve school climate, reduce discipline disparities and improve student engagement. Participants will have the opportunity to practice restorative language in the session.
Target audience: District and building leadership, lead teachers, school support staff, school administrators.
Presenter: Heather Hirsch, MPH, School Climate Specialist, Minnesota Department of Education.
Heather Hirsch is the School Climate Specialist in the School Safety Technical Assistance Center (Center) at the Minnesota Department of Education. The Center oversees the state implementation of the Minnesota Safe and Supportive Schools Act. Her responsibilities include developing training and technical assistance related school climate improvement, social emotional learning, and cyberbullying topics. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Minnesota.
Cost: $40.00 NCEC Members/$65.00 Non-Member (Lunch will be provided)
